No, that's not what I'm saying at all.
Do you all have spare wheelsets hanging around you can put on your bikes while you're waiting for work to be done to your 'normal' wheelset? You don't, you say? Then having to wait for a shop to finish working on your wheels means you don't have a bike. For some of you, apparently, that would mean no transportation, you'd have to walk everywhere. So in the case of at least some of you, it might make sense to learn how to true wheels yourself. Understand?

True, a good mechanic can bang out wheels that need to be trued in, say, 20 minutes or less, but if they're a good shop with a good rep they're probably busy, and it's at the very least rude to expect them to push you to the head of the line if they're busy. There's only one shop in the entire metropolitan area I live in that I really trust to work on wheels, they build wheels for me when I need them to, and I never rush them because I want to stay on friendly terms with them for reasons that should be obvious.
