This is it boys. The moment my train obsession began. I was watching a documentary with my father when I was 4, I got a train kit after this and it all started from there

Not sure, trains always have been part ofy engineering autism.

I didn't know much about trains until I moved from a regional town into Melbourne. Then when I saw the metro trains and especially the trams I really liked them a lot, and they were so convenient for getting around. I've never owned a car and I never intend to now that I know how easy it is to get around cities with public transport. Through a combination of my love for trains and my stingy nature, I was inspired to move north to Brisbane, bringing the bare necessities in just 2 suitcases on the XPT. So much cheaper than flying.

I've been interested in trains since I was a kid, that continued on and off in varying intensity and subject matter for the next 20 years up to the present. Being from the West Coast, I always had a fondness for the SP, even though the road itself ceased to exist by the time I was a toddler.

My interest in trains runs in the family; my grandfather was a member of a railfan club in the 1950s and would go on final steam excursions during that period of dieselization.

Family worked for the CPR so I was exposed at a very young age. I recall visits to the roundhouse and being fascinated at the signals, telegraph lines, tracks and bridges... basically the entire supporting infrastructure.

Dad was a worker on a refrigerator car in Russia,and when we moved to the states we lived near a railroad. Some of my favorite memories:

My parents took me camping, starting at age 2, and in the area is a terrific heritage railroad. Now I've taken my own kids on it, and they love it. I'm eagerly waiting for their ex-CN 0-6-0 switcher to come out of overhaul.

My dad was into trains when I was a kid, and had a model railroad and used to take us to train museums and stuff when we'd be on vacation near one or whatever. I guess I thought they were cool but I didn't really carry much of an interest in trains into my adult life, until just a couple of years ago when I stumbled across a Twitch stream of somebody playing Transport Fever and it awoke some kind of latent autism I never knew I had.

I suppose I'm probably a little different from most of /n/ in that I'm less interested in the trains themselves and more in the railroads, the journeys they enable, the history around them, etc.

I grew up riding the MBTA everywhere as we lived in Somerville and only had one car. As a kid I thought that the trains of all subway systems were painted to match the color of the line that they ran on. Adulthood was such a disappointment.

Acquired as a need for survival since grandma who raised me was absolute dogshit at directions. So by the time I was 4 I had memorized all the lines, services and trains that ran on all the lines in the Tokyo area and the bus services that run between Matsudo, Kameari and Soka station since thats how I had to get home. Thats how it started I still have most of that shit memorized granted Japanese people find it funny I refer to the Urban Park and Skytree line as the Isesaki and Noda lines like they should be called.
