So a train hit one of these abominations today.
4 kids ded and 2 critically injured.
Supposedly the brakes were malfunctioning.

We had a woman on a wheel chair get stuck while trying to cross the tracks and she was hit and killed by a train. Snow was likely a factor too.

I have been extremely sad since I first read of this accident. Fucking kids man, I cant handle this kind of news. Same happened to me a couple of years ago when a bus full of kids crashed in a tunnel in italy, like 25 died if I remember correctly. They were on a school trip. I was sad for a whole week back then.

Lets hope they sort these abominations and make them safer.

What kind of braking system does it have? If it's like a bicycle with 2 independent brakes, I find it hard to believe both failed.

I also wonder how much could have been done to prevent this accident. Like steering away from the railroad ahead for example. I'm curious about the investigation and its results.

The manufacturers homepage also had "5 reasons to schoose a stintcar"

How can you just randomly collide with a freight train? They're huge, ridiculously loud, visible from very far away and usually not crazy fast. An electric wheelbarrow is also really, really slow, just like, steer it away or tell the kids to jump out.

School bus drivers are teached to do this.
Can you see a kindergarden teacher check the brakes on her segway car before setting off? Can you see how she is schooled to prevent accidents by slowing down way before the crossing or not panicking when something brakes down?

It's horrible and as a father of two I cannot and will not imagine what this must be. But someone breaking through booms and literally riding the kids in front of a train should be hanged, stoned, torched and left to rot on a pole. I mean: 'Oh no, my brakes won't work. What to do, what to do... Oh yes, the boom barrier looks so comfy, it will probably hold this abomination loaded with some kids and me. Fuck, it didn't. Wham.'

Also could it be possible that someone was wearing earplugs and possibly even typing on the phone because hey, I ride this route so often I could make it with my eyes closed, eh?

I used to be a conductor for union pacific (freight).
If an engineer was in a situation where he had to suddenly slam the brakes on a potentially 14,000 ton load, chances are somebody wasn't respecting the crossing.
I'm not saying anyone deserved to get hit or killed.
Just saying it's kind of odd.
The railroad (or railway as it may be called in other countries) is pretty serious business and the laws and safety protocols are no joke.
It's also odd for a locomotive to leave a facility without being inspected by the train crew (conductor and engineer), car men (car mechanics) and roundhouse (locomotive mechanics).
Now if this was a passenger train with electric brakes and such, idk what to tell you. My experience is only with freight, air brakes and diesel/diesel electric engines.
