>>1241860>>1241860The post-merger United livery was quite literally thought up by the individual CEOs of United and Continental in a single meeting between the two of them. It was criticized by the marketing and design communities upon it's debut, and for good reason. The United "U" was symbolic and had fantastic brand recognition. The Continental livery was great in and of itself, but the idea to keep it and just change the name to United always seemed lazy and unintuitive to me. Those planes still look off even after ~7 years.
The Battleship Grey was such a fantastic design, professional, clean, stylish and projects an image of prestige. However, it does look a bit dated nowadays. United's 727s, DC-10s and 747 classics wore it near the end of their service life.
