Not at all. Seems like a comfy way to tour. Looks like it's geared low too for Japan's many mountains. Fit fenders, a rack, and some bike bags and it'd be super comfy.

I would use different handlebars with more sweep, mount racks/panniers/bags and maybe get some touring tires for it, but the rest seems fine.

Seriously. Why do people insist in setting a small front gear? I see a lot of cyclists pedaling like helicopters and not even reaching 10km/h. Mine has 48 and sometimes I would like a bigger one.

If you go through the Western part of Japan (that is mountains only) and do lots of offroad then it's fine aside from no having a rack.

If you go through the Eastern part and stick to roads it's overkill. Go with an endurance road bike or a gravel bike.

i mean i'd do the tour divide on a walmart bso if i had financial backing and guaranteed time off work but that bike looks like a lot of fun.
i'd put a wtb volt saddle on it, a shorter stem and some manner of 760ish riser bar and just shred around.

lel I just saw on the news someone riding a shared bike with solid tie from Chengdu all the way to Lhasa because he can't find a supported city to drop off the bike along the way. (2000+ km trip with altitude increase to 4000+ m by the end of journey)

well i think in that type of bikes is bc aren't made to pedal that much, since they are like bmx-mtb hybrid, and was intended to be used in pump tracks, dirt jumps, skateparks, etc. and the dude that used the bike didn't upgrade the bike to make it comfyer with a larger front gear for the travel.
