It's nice that light rail is coming back; of course, if they hadn't ripped it up 80 years ago, it might be easier to bring back.

The old Maine Two-Footers; a two foot narrow gauge line that served rural Maine until the 30s, when the ties were ripped up. A few scenic Railroads have since been resurrected; this is the Maine Narrow Gauge Museum in Portland.

Standard gauge electric trolleys from the Seashore Trolley Museum in Kennebunkport, Maine. Opened shortly after WWII. New England had an extensive electric trolley network. It all got either ripped up or buried. The rights of way were buried under suburbia as the farms were subdivided.

In the above case, yes. Really, I'm just annoyed that "light rail" is being treated as a 21st century political tool, as if it's actually the latest and greatest. It's not a new concept by any means.

Yup. The 2 footers were cheaper than standard gauge in their time, though, and they could lay rails down a frickin goat path when they wanted to.
