Someone said here before about having larger roads and less need for maneuverability. The American design prioritises comfort, whereas European models are better suited for smaller roads at the sacrifice of having the engine right under the cab, which used to be loud and hot. That's not an issue today tho.

Plus it's a pain to get at the engine with cab-overs. You have to lift the cab off the top to do any intensive maintenance.

Cab-overs are only popular in Europe because truckloads are primarily limited by length there. In the US they're primarily limited by weight.

By the time the drives carrying 34000lbs of weight hit a bump. I’m already 10 feet ahead of them, and the frame twists a bit.
End result I feel a fraction of what Actualy would.
Same with the steers a bit father ahead instead of riding directly over them.

My dads truck is actually so nice riding it make me sick. His has a softer 12k axle and I chose to have a 13.2k which is a little bit stiffer. I appreciate the feedback from it.

I cruise 120kmph all day and cover 1300km before taking a 5 hour nap (like my daddy trump does) and doing it again.

Combination of factors.

- American road construction is rather cheaply done, so legislation is laid out to protect the road surface through spreading the weight across a long wheelbase, meaning that a cabover truck possibly couldn't weigh as much as longnose trucks (you may notice that American trucks are not only longer than Euro trucks but also have more wheels despite weighing less)
- long wheelbase is also a workaround for crappy suspension or shitty roads, basically the further you sit from the axles the less you'll be thrown around by bumps, allowing American trucks to employ cheaper construction and suspension and therefore keep prices low for the customer
- subjective perception of higher safety if your windshield is separated from impacts by six feet of hood and engine, as well as subjective negative impression of cabovers because the last time the US saw widespread cabover use was in the 70s or 80s or so when they really were uncomfortable and nothing like the advanced cabovers of today

Euro trucks could no doubt function in the US, but both regulatory and practical reasons as well as subjective impression favor longnose trucks in the American working environment.

American max length limits are only on the trailer whereas European limits are the entire vehicle. This and manoeuvrability are the biggest reasons why eurotrucks are cabovers.

As Euro cities tend to have much smaller streets than American ones they also come with much smaller single axle trailers that are about 1/2 the length of American full size.

Air fronts are fairly common.
My brother just ordered a truck with a 14.6k dual level valve front.
I prefer spring front. I think air is a little squishy when you lay into a hard curve at 130kmph.

Price isn’t a factor. I have a 5,000$ bumper, 5,000$ exhaust, 2.5k half fenders, and can go on.
Of course big companies will spec barebones trucks

There are some useless things for sure that barely ever move. But if one day they do. You’ll be glad u had.

I use the suspension gauges all the time to make sure I’m not overweight on an axle and get a scale ticket.

Pyro to make sure I let off when egt is hot. (All part of getting to a million miles)

If I ever have a failure in driveline or a problem developing the trans and axle temps will let me know.

Boost so I know if I have a bad turbo or leak in system

Fuel and air filter to know if they need changed. Although I change them and the oil every 12-15k so they won’t ever move.
