Some news out of Union Station. According to Metrolinx sometime in the near future they will begin renovating the platforms at union station, specifically making the wider, as well as increasing their height to be level with the train doors. The plans include:
>Ten tracks with wide platforms for twelve car trains. >Additional escalators, elevators, and stairs to platforms. >Provision for additional passengers bridges on the east and west end of the platforms. >Two bay (dead-end) platforms, west-facing, for four-car UP Express and GO trains. >Four bay platforms, east facing, for eight-car VIA trains and GO trains. No clue when this will start, and don't ask why this wasn't done with the rest of the work. Also there was no discussion about the train shed issue, since as it stands now the old metal shed is to low for overhead catenary and for whatever reason that hunk of metal is designated as heritage.
