Freight capacity is excellent but literally everything else is mediocre at best and trash at worst. I like to think it will get better though.

They are often late by several minutes, trains get canceled, slight snow means apocalypse, AC works only up to about 30°C if at all.
The rolling stock isn't exactly new, cars are everything from the 80s to recent models, some stuff is even older.
Locomotives are a total clusterfuck that includes everything from steam powered freight trains to modern HSR and 160 km/h commuter trains in regular service.

Powerful locomotives pull trains multiple km long across an entire continent, I'd say it's pretty impressive

Passenger service: Toronto and Montreal's commuter rail systems are okay, in places they're even pretty good (Lakeshore lines in Toronto come to mind). Outside of that though, passenger service is nearly nonexistent; and where it does exist, it's constantly late, underfunded, expensive to ride and generally terrible.

I mean, VIA Rail's basically Amtrak but with no NEC equivalent. You guys ONLY have LD trains, though I have heard that the service on them is slightly better than Amtrak.

Last time I took an Amtrak LD was also my first, back in 2016. Had good steak, the staff were nice, and we actually arrived EARLY. Not sure how typical that is though, or if that's still the case now that "cut everything" Anderson is in charge.

That 2100 engine is an old UP engine that the CN bought.(The big front porch should be a dead giveaway) All 2000 and 2100 series are UP engines and the 2200 and 2300s are old BNSF engines, if I remember correctly.

Public transport is the form of transport for the rich societies. But, not ones where only select ones are rich. In this regard US is very similar.
