the top end isn't an issue
the issue is that they're a little bit akward manuevering at low speeds which, if they're going to share bike lanes and spaces with pedestrians, they need to be able to do. I rode my freinds one for a while, and I didn't find it an issue, but I can do no handed trackstands on my road bike, my bikehandling is quite good. For many people it is kind of an issue.
his one was also torquey as fuck on the throttle. The added weight doesn't help either. So it was much harder to control at low speeds than most regular bikes.
post pics of what you have?
Also on the top speed issue, I really think that the point of the motor shouldn't be to make them faster than bicycles, it should be to make them more effortless to ride. So unfit people can commute easily and fit people can commute without breaking a sweat, with hills.
I see people suited up in lycra on e-bikes sometimes and they're really going hard and it's the gotta go fast mentality + a motor which I just don't like. They're not even using it for utility, they're out just 'for a ride'. If people are going to behave like that, then e-bikes shouldn't be allowed to use bicycle infrastructure, and it's going to ruin half the appeal of them. Just fucking get a road biking and git good or get a sports bike if you want that.
