The top speed for most trams is given as either 70km/h or 80km/h. Those being round numbers makes me think that the actual top speed is a little higher than that for any given model. My city's trams certainly reach speeds somewhere between 60 and 70 km/h in tunnel sections or on independent ROW in the countryside.

Screeching noise is not an issue in those cases, as the track is mostly straight anyway.

Anyway, the noise polution highly depends on the quality of tracks or vehicles. Any tram in rundown Russian Prdelsk-on-Siberia willbe more noisy going 20 km.h than a Swiss tram running 70 km.h. You can check randomly on Youtube that I am right.

Rubber gets hot and degrades fast.

Also, all trams have electromagnetic brakes, which literally squish rail with 30 m tonns and stop instantly, but it is not used often, since flying pax are much more expensive to repair than some shitbox, which broke the traffic code.

Also, rails are smoother, than asphalt, which allows stiffer suspension, which reduced shaking during braking, which causes sickness.
