>>1269304I think that there are some valid criticisms of digital, mainly that it makes it so easy to pray n' spray and fuck around in post that many rely too much on gear and software. It's also funny that many use tools to introduce grain and other imperfections into their shots. On the other hand, having fast autofocus and crazy high ISO means that you can get some shots that were never possible in the film days. Pic v. related. I got it while sitting in the back of a LC70 that was bouncing around the road at extremely hihg speeds, using a Sony A6000 and a Canon 135mm L lens. I also love what you can do with Foveon stuff. Medium format resolutions and deep reds in a compact camera, yes plz. Not getting fucked up on chemicals during post is a big bonus.
>>1269318I'm acquainted with a couple, namely the guy who runs Rivelo, but I didn't know he has 30 people. His operation should be like 10 max, including the fucking janitor. What the fuck. It's unsustainable to operate a business that size on only a few million a year in revenue in fucking California. He's thought about moving to Silverton OR to save money, but he'll never do it. They also have bad product overlap, and rarely introduce anything really new to make repeat customers of people who would buy another Riv if it wasn't just another iteration of a bike that they already got and will outlast their lives. Riv's big strengths as a brand are a feeling of quality craftsmanship and good design. The nice lugs, killer typography, and neato headbadges really help. I agree that the meme handlebars don't. Dude could've landed on dirt drops or H-loop before anyone else, but kept missing the mark. Anyway, he loves Bob Dylan, so he should do what Bob did: go electric.
But Grant will be the first to admit that he's a shitty businessman. Riv could easily have been QBP with a better product planner at the helm. But that was never to be, so I expect that Riv will go under in the next year or two, and Grant will retire.
