>>1269369>How many miles did you do in 2018, /n/?Only 1 ride day left this year (today), so this is close enough.
I didn't have a very good year, /n/. Started out with a really bad case of the flu, which dragged on for weeks, crawling down into my lungs, triggering severe asthma problems to the point where the doctor says "I don't hear breath sounds from your right lung". Not good. That all took me off the bike for a while, took a while to recover enough. Then in July I got in an accident that destroyed my regular road bike. I've been on a TT bike since then, no money to build up a replacement for the road bike.
Then, smoke from wildfires in my state (California) aggravated my already aggravated lungs to the point where it felt like I was dying. Hard to ride when you can't breathe.
More recently, I got laid off my job, since November 1st, so really no money to build a new road bike.. but here's 2018's stats anyway:
Rode 5862 miles total in 350 hours, 19 minutes, 20 seconds.
186 watts average (227 watts normalized), generating 229362kJ
Speed: 15.34mph average.
186866 feet elevation gain.
Not very impressive. :-(
In a more normal year I'd have logged at least 500 hours riding and at least 10000 miles.
Everything else would be proportionately higher too because of more fast group rides and tougher training, more hill climbing.
I'd also have participated in at least a dozen road races and time trials; I only ever made it to ONE all year, between illness, malfunctioning lungs, losing my main bike, and losing my job.
All in all I feel lucky to have escaped 2018 with my life. It's been a piece of shit year and I'm glad it's almost over.
The only way 2019 could be worse is if I end up homeless and dying of starvation and exposure outside somewhere. :-(
