Can we have a thread about medical transportation? Never seen it discussed here, but there's a lot to be said about it that intersects with urban planning, transport planning, and social policies more generally, and it involves many different kinds of modes of travel from helicopters to buses to wheelchairs that cost more than cars.

I work for a company in the US that provides both emergency ambulance service, plus routine van transport for people in wheelchairs (basically a specialized taxi service), ask me anything.

The one thing that really irks me about the work I do is that we do some really dumb things in part because the cost of driving is simply too low - like taking patients to doctor's offices in a city 60 miles away when there are at least 50 offices locally that could do the same thing, or sending an ambulance crew to help the staff at a nursing home start a tricky IV.
