+ can change directions anywhere, no loops save street space (but the driver has to disable his cab, walk to the other end and enable the other cab, which takes a while)
+ platforms on either side to help work around retarded city plans
- extra driver's cab in each unit
- extra doors that break down
- losing some passenger space for the aforementioned
The choice boils down to real estate prices versus purchasing and running costs of the rolling stock.
