>>1272848Hyperloop was originally pursued by the company which would later become known as "The Boring Company". It was marketed and started by Musk, and the name "Hyperloop" may have come from Musk or one of his marketing people.
At any rate, "The Boring Company" stopped all work on Hyperloop and that was sold off to Virgin Group. Now, "The Boring Company" is focusing on the "Loop", which is nothing other than Personal Rapid Transit in underground tunnels.
Maybe Elon Musk used it for free PR, or maybe it was too secure investment into something he knew he wouldn't actually do? At any rate, a scaled down test track for a student competition for Hyperloop pods was organised by SpaceX (due to the required manufacturing of the tubes, which were repurposed Falcon 9 fuel tanks).
With most things, I feel like Musk's stuff just feels like one massive shitpost. He doesn't even run SpaceX anymore, he just owns it. He's turned into a salesman, while an actual qualified aerospace engineer actually runs SpaceX. Actually, SpaceX's credibility is pretty shaky with "National Defence" people because Musk is known to go on local radio while high on marijuana, and then claim some total bullshit.
Meanwhile, suits looking for a launch provider for their strategically important payload look to ULA, because it's pretty much Boeing and Lockheed Martin running the show, and they're proven companies.
Hell, even foreign customers are spooked. They're tempted to just go to ArianeSpace instead, because a launch share with another customer costs about the same as a Falcon 9 launch, with the added bonus of requiring less hypergolic fuel in their payload
