What's eco about this? Does it have a million dollar's worth of batteries on board?
The vast majority of diesel locomotives currently in use are actually diesel-electric, so yes, those are reliable.

This way, the diesel engine can always run at peak efficiency which saves diesel. However, bear in mind that this will be replaced by hydrogen in the future.
