that's where it's at.
A 90s mtb probably doesn't really have sand fat tire clearance
27.5+ or 29+ is better. So something like a marin pine mountain or a kona unit x
That's another $1000.

$2000 to do it really well. That gives you a really competent mtb with extremely comfy tires for snow and sand, and a reliable motor which is extremely torquey and powerful like a motorbike under throttle.

what you do is find a 27" (ISO 630, which is bigger than 700c) ATB (all terrain bike) which could be found with about 1.75" or even 2" at the most. Then you slap a standard 26" MTB wheel (ISO 559) which MIGHT clear 26x3. I'm just throwing this suggestion out of my ass

Yes.. Very bad. Very very bad. You could spend a lot of money trying to amorialate the problem... Maybe Gates carbon belt with custom enclosure... Maybe some extra protection for hubs, bottom bracket, headset. The salt water and air will corrode steel quickly. Beaches and sand are bike destroyers. I can only imagine what sand would do to a Chinese electric motor

Single speed cheap shit is probably the way to go, abuse and replace parts. Electric motor complicates things beyond any possible budget build. Endlessly trashing $100 beach cruisers from Walmart might be the cheapest option of all

Yes, this is apparently a cheap option.

However you will have somewhat decreased power density due to the condition of the cells, so will need a larger batt for the same power.

You'll also have to cycle each cell individually and match together similar cells, and throw out bad ones.

Also the skills and know-how to build a battery will be necessary. You don't want to fuck it up.

I rebuilt a lawnmower engine just by watching some youtube vids with my uncles tool kit.
This does not look much harder.
I have access to a soldering iron , multi meters and even a silly scope.
Will have to buy or make a spot welder though.

Building a battery pack isn't the challenge really. It's designing a battery management and charging that won't cause a house fire or explode the cells, especially when using cells of different capacities, ages, and slightly off voltages.
