Anyone working for a local passenger train company? What is your salary? How's the difficulty for recruitment test?

Trying to apply for an underground train company, job entry is hard as fuck, you need to pass a lot of scientific and fitness tests. Also the salary is shit, around 20.000 bucks a year.

Holy shit dude, that's absolutely miserable, even here in Barcelona the worst paid subway workers make 29k/year, train drivers make a bunch more than that. I mean, they're obviously overpaid as fuck, but why would people want to be a subway driver for 20k/year in Berlin? How can you even live off of that?

It's more a hobby than getting well paid... well, a shitty paid hobby. But it's a overall trend in east Germany for getting a shitty payment.

The London Underground pays its drivers at least £30,000 a year, usually more than that.
I suppose London is an expensive city to live in, but for Berlin, you're looking at nearly €1,000 to rent an apparment a month, and that's most likely just the Kaltmiete.
Shouldn't you be getting a higher salary for both Berlin (because Berlin is considered West German for salaries), and because you went to university/Hochschule?

You should be getting a far higher salary for something as stressful as driving a rapid transit train. An average annual salary of €36,000 in Berlin makes the BVG either look like wage slavers or some weird other thing.

Maybe use google translater, stating: "the starting salary at BVG is around 1200 euros - is it worth it?". Average income working for a IT company is also around 1600 - 2000 € in Berlin. Nothing beats West Germany of course, Bavaria etc., where you can earn more 3000 € monthly.

Not always. I've studied this at university. For certain salaries, it's counted as West Germany, for others it's counted as East Germany and in some professions, Berlin is on its own, separate to everything else. There are also certain professions where the minimum wage is set federally.

But I have heard that the BVG are negotiating with workers who are threatening strike action? I think? Not sure, I heard bits and pieces about it from r/de.

It's overall not much a problem if your monthly living expenses are not too high like in Brandenburg or Sachsen. But living in Berlin with an East German wage is ridiculous.

Yes, there are internal fights between employees and employers from BVG mainly because the low wages.

Actually, this is very convenient. I lived in the so-called "Berliner Speckgürtel" for several months, so I could just take the train or bus into Berlin whenever I needed to. Since everything is still in the Berlin ABC zone, you're basically living in a cheaper place with easy Berlin access. The Mietspiegel in Brandenburg is much lower, unless you're in Potsdam, but that's beside the point.

Driverless metro like the other anon said is only line L9/L10, also shuttle line L11 (which has drivers that do literally nothing). But all lines have automatic train control, so the driver essentially just opens and closes the doors. Once in a blue moon the system crashes and they have to drive manually, so the ride becomes jerky as fuck, and trains take twice or three times as long to brake at the stations, because the idiot drivers aren't at all used to driving the train themselves.

The Munich U-Bahn has an LZB derived ATO system which is deactivated deliberately in the evenings and weekends to force the drivers to actually know how to drive the trains. Meanwhile, during rush hour, it's basically push a button to make the train go, which makes the capacity of the network go up by 4 times, means that trains are basically running like clockwork. The main reason why they do the switching off of ATO in the evenings is in the event of system failure during daylight hours, the drivers are still familiar with how to operate the trains.
