This is the Raleigh SC40 (sport comfort). It is the bike that got me into cycling in the early 00s. What a treasure. Big tires, extremely stable, no suspension..I knew nothing about bikes and didn't adjust or care for it for two years, leaving it out in the rain. I might have to find another one

You are unaware of the power the SC series has. They are incredible
Compare the Geo to a Crust bike and you will understand. Rigid frame with mountain components, but with high stack and short reach.
Come to think of it, these are dying for drop bar conversion
They are perfect for it
Probably exact geometry of the spexialized AWOL for 1/20th the price
Many comfort bikes are hobbled by BSO suspension, but not the Raleigh SC40 series. They were perfect

I bought one for my momma and she loves it. Bright red raleigh Detour. It's actually pretty fast because there's no front shock and the top gear is 48-11. But she just keeps it in the middle ring and goes around the neighborhood and around park paths and whatnot.

Without the low step thru design she wouldn't have been able to have a bike and would have had to get a recumbent.

It's got beaver-tail grips and ez fire style shimano thumbies and a mega range cassette in the back so there's a bailout gear. It's 30.5 lbs which is pretty good for a double tubed step thru bike like that.

I kinda get why you need moto helmet, it has windshield, and face protection, while bicycle one only acts like a hat with some styrofoam. I just can't think about situations, where you would hit head like that.

Raleigh is the only big company that got 26er hybrids right. It's a wonder they ever sold but they picked great paint for the SC-30s in 2000 and 2001 so they sold well and are easy to find.

I'm in agreement that most of these bikes suck, but appearances can be wrong. The legendary Raleigh SC-series rigids are some of the most stable and neutral handling frames ever designed. If a brand like Surly could wrap they're heads around one and add inferior disc brakes they would sell like hot cakes

I mean, look at this thing. Elephant bikes even stole the paint job for the NFE (and didn't get the sparkle right). The geometry is ripe for bike packing. It's incredible
