what exactly is your point OP? This happens all the time in America because American cities were built around railroad tracks. Oakland, California is the most notorious offender pic very related.

Literally all of these rare examples allow car traffic to travel unencumbered and right beside the trains. Where as the cartoon highlights the fact that when a bike lane ends bikes are forced to use infrastructure that is not designed for them and and have no lanes just to themselves unlike the cages who still have their own lanes in these pictures.

Stopping and restarting a 1 000 000 kg train moving at 80 km/h takes forever. Stopping and restarting your 1 500 kg car moving at 50 km/h takes about ten seconds.
