Years ago there was a fan-made concept floating around on the internet about the Boeing Ecoliner. It was about a twin-jet fully double-decker airliner for Boeing to compete against the A380 and fill in existing gaps within the market. It would have required massive fuck-off engines larger than the GE90, and there was an idea about using a beefed up APU to provide thrust for TO/GA. Realistically, would such an aircraft be economically or physically viable? Would there have been enough fuel savings to justify the use of full double-deckers?
Now that the A380 has been BTFO, should this have been what the industry built towards?
