Lads, was at Matlock yesterday. Beautiful, beautiful place. Got there from Derby, and I do sort of wish I alighted from one of the intermediate stations on the line cause it looked like they had more unspoiled view walks than Matlock had. Ty to >>1280566 and >>1282053 for the guidance.
Pic is meant to be more /co/ related than /n/, eventually, but I thought it was nice to share it anyway.

Thank you, and no problem. I do wish I could have taken some scenery shots from the train, but really don't have the camera to deal with the lighting and movement... but anyway, this is /n/, not /p/ or /out/.
Thinking about it, assuming it's a reliable service it really must be a lovely commute, people getting into Derby - and I thought my commute on the North Downs line was pretty nice.

Literally all you had to do to get to Amsterdam from London before the Eurostar service was switch platforms within the station at Brussels. The success of this route clearly shows how shit booking international European rail travel is, but how do you improve it?

Centralised inter-city booking systems, which allow you to book train tickets between major European cities, perhaps even allowing for last mile regional connections.

As far as I'm aware, if you wanted to go from Amsterdam to London, you would have to get a Thalys train from Amsterdam to Brussels, which might not even connect, or leave you with a several hour long connection and then you would then have to go through the border control in Brussels. I do not know if you can buy tickets from NS for Amsterdam to London, but with this new service, you can just use the Eurostar website. Eurostar can also let you buy connecting trains in the UK from most UK stations, so long as you buy in Pounds Sterling £. If you buy in Euros, the option is unavailable.

I took the train from Berlin to London in 2017, and that involved a 6 hour train from Berlin to Cologne, a 2 and a half hour train from Cologne to Brussels and then the nearly 3 hour train from Brussels to London. I could buy that ticket from a train station in a small town, so long as it was from a ticket machine. That cost me €90 one way in second class. I know DB has an arrangement with Eurostar, but they do not have arrangements with PKP Intercity for travel to any Polish city that isn't Poznan or Warsaw, no arrangements with SNCF for travel to cities which aren't Paris or Strassbourg, and no arrangements with DSB for tickets to anywhere that isn't Copenhagen. Also, if you want to get the train to Sweden from Germany, the furthest you can get with one ticket is Malmö.

Having a single point of sale for any long distance service in Europe will be important when more rail lines are upgraded, or new high speed lines replace major mainlines.
