Why do some countries think its an easy fix to paint bicycle lanes on the road? Why not widen the walking path and put it there instead, away from the freaking cars.

The problem isn't cars in this specific case, but your society. Here in germany I just see delivery trucks doing this what is ok for me. I just switch SAFELY into the other lane.
Often car drivers even reduce their speed so I don't have to stop and I can go safely around this.

In the part of town where many arabs live you see them doing this all day and the other drivers are also very aggressive. Nobody let's you in.
