In sailboats big is usually bad since maintenance and equipment costs skyrocket over about 40 feet. Best bet is to buy a small, cheap shitbox from the 60's/70s and outfit iyourselft . Boats back then were usually massively overbuilt. Check out the Jester Challenge racs for info on sub 30 footers sailing transatlantic,there are a lot of very capable boats out there that you could by for a few grand, I'd much prefer to be in one of these than many modern boats when the shit hits the fan at sea
