I was buzzing around the airport and came across a new gate out by the ball diamonds.

My rims were extra filthy after todays ride. I used a small hand pump pesticide sprayer to get the sand off the bike. Then made numerous paper towels black with brake pad dust.

After the blizzard of the past week and some extra shifts at work I finally got out for a nice little ride today, was out on the road for about two hours. Traffic in the touristy area of my town was remarkably heavy for a Monday afternoon in mid-March, but I shouldn't complain since that's suggests the local economy is likely to do pretty well this year.

Almost crashed, but didn't, while making an awkward detour to avoid a big snowbank that sits in the way of a shortcut back my house, because if I haven't been on my Falcon (pictured) for a while I forget about the toe overlap I experience on this bike.

I went for a night ride on St. Patrick's day. I thought I would see more drunks, but only encountered one other person over 40 miles. Night rides are great if you like the solitude. I almost crashed on a pothole I didn't see, so there are some drawbacks.

Riding in this wet sandy spring melt is bad for my rims. The wear indicator groove is just about gone on one side of my rear wheel. Disc brakes would definitely be helpful in the kind of crap I ride through.

With the warmer weather I've gone for a 2+ hour ride for the past 11 days straight. My legs are starting to crap out.

Today it took an hour and 20 minutes to work out the soreness. Its funny how my legs don't feel sore, until I get on the bike. I really feel it the first time I get out of the saddle.

Got my longest ride of the season in today, 83 km. I was going to get some truck stop pizza at the half-way point but they didn't have any ready. Nice tailwind when I turned around, I cruised along at 40 km/h while drinking a coke.

I bought a goniometer in the fall to help figure out fit issues. With my shoes in the summer saddle height my leg was about 5 degrees straighter at max extension than with my winter boots at the winter saddle height. So I lowered the saddle a bit more to bring the angle down er up.

I should look into getting an app that calculates knee angle. I bought a cheap used trainer for doing fit related stuff, but I keep lending it to my brother so its never around when I need it.

Planned an 80 km route, but side missions brought it up to 96 km by the time I finished. Dropping saddle 1/8" made a huge difference.

Rode past a new intermodal yard under construction. All container picking will be done by a pair of rail mounted gantry cranes. The cranes span the rail spur, container yard and loading lanes.

Pretty good ride today, I started going a bit too hard for the distance but in the end I actually managed to hold my power for the entire time. Legs did end up stinging towards the end though.

The rigid mtb I converted from 7 to 9 speed in the fall won't shift to the big ring. Not a huge deal at the moment since the middle ring will get me going quick enough. I'm pretty sure the LBS sold me a square taper BB that is too wide. When it warms up again I'll pull the bottom bracket out to see what size it is.

A lot cooler today than it had been all week so I took the mtb out as its saddle is still at my winter boot height.

rode about 60 miles on the south and north county trails. meant to take the trailway up to the bridge over croton reservoir, but it was closed. got fries and beer on the way back. really pleasant day with warm sun and cool air. super comfy.

The brand is DRAG not ORAG and it is good brand they make some real competition bikes i think.

Well here you can ride wherever there is something that resembles road cause we dont have bike lanes outside of the cities so we ride on the right of the road or on the sidewalks or road that goes by some field. This trip was mostly road but the road itself is not very flat the asphalt is grainy i mean and there are holes on the road. All and all i dont recommend such bike as in the picture the one with the slim tires if he puts fatter tires it will be excellent. Gravel bike is great for what we have here.

5 minutes feels like forever when waiting for a train to pass. I'm not a fan of not moving, if I come to a light that I know will be long, I'll often go right so I don't have to stop even if its longer.

Warmest day of the year so far, I had to take my jacket off near the end. Pairs of Canada geese are starting to pop up everywhere. Windy tomorrow then meh temps rest of the week.

Just did my first non winter clothing commuter bike ride since October and I didn't lose any pace. I bulked up almost 20 pounds since then so I'm pretty surprised. Still a bit off my fastest which is usually in July.

Only did 81km but it was a pretty good length ride considering I've hardly been riding lately. This is the highest I've ever seen the river in my life. The marina's bottom level is half underwater.

Until it gets warm enough to go for longer rides on the highway I've been doing loops around town hitting as many different roads as I can. Its been going faster than I expected and I have about 1/3 of the city covered already. Its been reminding me of a bunch of shortcuts I forgot about.

Over a week until the temp gets back up to over 10C.

Newbie here, also pretty fat. Only been on 4-5 rides averaging 5 miles. I did 10 miles today, felt good. Actually felt like I was just starting to really warm up near the end and could have kept going for awhile. Going to see just how far I can go this weekend

i spotted a old dude on a bench with a Caloi Sport (2000's hybrid) with 26x1.95" tires and decided to ask him to look out for my bike while i go inside the bank
as i approached i noticed his cockpit was full of eletronics and weird stuff, he even had a head unit, his pedals had some homemade thick leather straps and his seat was the highest i've ever seen a old dude with
before i said anything he asked me if my bike was "modified", to which i said yes, he asked "90's?80's? that a nice frame allright"
i explained it was a 90's mtb conversion to which he seemed amused by the idea, he then started to recall his time as a racer "those are nice clips, cant ride far without them! specially with that 15 by 46 ratio you have (dude's made out my ratio just by looking at it), you take it to Stocco's track with the fixed gear side? hoho i remember when it was all bush"
i talked a bit more with him and he eventually said "well, your bike is quite cheap but the most important thing on the sport is training! back in the day we used to do everything by bike, the very same bikes we raced on"

dude was cool and i asked his name, went home and searched it
boomer wasn't joking, he indeed was a racer back in the day and still receives tributes and awards from the city/state officials to this day, never would thought this just by looking at his walmart-tier bike full of wacky stuff

I was riding around an area today with really shitty visibility. Houses close to the street blocking view of the cross roads. Lots of pickups / SUVs parked on the street further blocking the view. There were plenty of times the road looked clear of cross traffic but I could hear tire noise so I knew it wasn't. Makes me appreciate how much listening can contribute to not dying.

So much starting and stopping today. I was riding up and down every road / alley in the area but had already covered the main roads the other day. Due to the visibility I had to come to a near stop every time I encountered another road. Probably 250+ stops in a 68 km ride.

Thanks for the encouragement. I used to squat pretty big weight(years ago) so I know the strength is there once I condition it. Once I start hitting the 20-30 mile marks I'm going to try to work on speed because I move pretty slow, especially uphill. I'm dieting as well so hopefully by that time I will have lost enough weight for my climbs to greatly improve.

Weather is kind of shit today so I don't know if I'll get out for that ride I was planning

First randonneur club ride of the season today. Was supposed to be a nice 50 km ride to encourage new people to come out before before we start into our brevets. Last night's overnight low of -10C scared off everyone. It was -2C at the start, and since I ride all winter I found it quite pleasant.

There were just 3 of us for the ride and the pace was pretty slow. My winter riding usually gives me a leg up for the early season rides. My max HR for the ride was lower than my avg HR on a typical solo ride.

used to play college FB and got into bike riding for the challenge and to save my knees. 2 years ago I was riding a BSO around my neighborhood park at 11mph at 325 lbs first time riding a bike since grad school. Last year I bought a road bike and rode 2500 miles and dropped 31 lbs during bike season. This year looking to break 3k miles.

My advice is to condition yourself to not just chow down after a ride. It's like weightlifting where the last thing you want to do is lift and then sit down at the table and eat away your gains (or losses). They even have a similar saying: you can't out pedal the fork.

This means smaller granola bars and a juice/gatorade bottle that I put half ice in. Most of the time don't even eat the bars unless I go over 30 miles or so.

The juice is helpful to have a take a tiny sip every once in a while.

If I would have figured out to watch my eating after rides and eat 1/3 as much during rides earlier in the season I swear I would have lost 50.

Occasional flurries and ice pellets while I was out riding today. Got to break through the thin ice covering some long shallow puddles. I love the sound / feel of breaking that ice. When a vehicle does the breaking it ejects a bunch of ice fragments from the puddles and they look a lot like broken glass.

I've rode 100 miles over the last 3 days which is a lot for me coming into actually getting into bike shape.

Only problem is I've got a marble sized ingrown hair/saddle sore right on my fucking taint. I have a lancet that I use for face zits and whatnot should I lance it bros? Or should I just hit it with neosporin and wait it out?

There are a few things that contribute to saddle sores. Saddle too high causes side to side rocking. Saddle too far back and you end up sitting on the nose with your weight on your taint instead of on your sit bones.

Popping saddles sores tends to lead to infection due to the climate down there. Some people recommend acne cream for saddle sores BUT the peroxide will bleach any clothing it comes in contact with, underwear, bike short chamois, and shirt / towels if you wipe your hands on them without having first thorough washed your hands after applying it.

Weather for tomorrow is looking good to ride out to a potash mine. I've had that ride in mind for a year and a half but never got around to doing it last year. There is an extra wide road to accommodate moving large vessels, fresh pavement and practically zero traffic apart from shift changes.

I'm getting back into. Just posted one ride out of a few for the year. Thinking about getting an HRM and maybe cadence sensor since I'm always pushing too hard and fast and slow is hard for me. When I lived out west it was a lot easier to ride around with no gps or anything, now I'm back in roadie land and rambling around the 'burbs isn't quite so fulfilling.

I really hate when the current day forecast is wrong. I always wonder how they managed to horribly screw up the forecast for the next few hours.

The wind was supposed to be light but ended up being 30 gusting to 40 km/h most of the day, starting about an hour into my 130 km ride. Rather than turn around early I just got in the drops and chugged along at 20 km/h for the next 2 hours. Wind shifted 45 degree from straight on just before I turned around so I didn't get a huge boost on the way back.

It's been a funny week - up the hill on Monday and it was snowing, just lightly but enough to cover the tree canopy with icky slushy stuff which falls precisely on top of my helmet, melts and is generally nasty. Tuesday- Thursday fine but a bit cold. Friday, sunny and 20 Celsius.

They do Ti road, CX and mountain bike frames, these are made to order -- google "Panasonic POS" and you should hit the "Panasonic Order System" site (Japanese only). They've recently added an anodised finish option for Ti frames, this is cool because, unlike aluminium, there's no external colouring involved, I believe that the colour depends on the thickness of the anodised surface.

Temperature for the next two weeks is right on the line where its too warm for my jacket but too cool to not wear one. That is unless I'm riding with slowpokes.

Sometimes my rain jacket works at that temperature so I'll see. No selection of cycling jackets locally, and my buying online last spring didn't work as I ended up with an even warmer jacket.

After checking this 1980 TdF bike through and adjusting it to me, I went on the first serious test ride today.

Took Trezure on our first century today. Got three flats, two at once running over a rock I think (was wheelsucking, didn't see it coming).
Thought I could handle the main climb of 1200 ft at 7% with a 36/28 but I had to stop a couple times.
Felt mostly fine until around mile 88, ate a bunch of raisins and was drinking plenty of water and the provided Gatorade but felt weak and could only push 140 watts. That was the longest 12 miles of my life. I had only done 55 miles before but even that was in the fall. Had to ditch my mates too around mile 83, they couldn't keep up (asses and various other parts numb) and at the pace they were going the finish line was going to close.

A literal grandma finished right after me, kek. I could have maintained 19-20 in the first half tho if not held back. I think I'll keep training for longer rides, most of my club has several double centuries under their belts. How often do I have to do longer rides to keep the fitness gains to be able to handle them?

Got a flat while I was out today. I always check Strava when I get home to see how long it took me to swap tubes. Today it was a shamefully slow 8.5 minutes. Puncture was on the rim side but the rim tape looked good. I should order a few more tubes. I've been mostly using thinner 700x25 road tubes instead of 32 because I had extra of those laying around.

Nice and warm, didn't need a jacket. A few days in the middle of the week with a 3C high, so we aren't into consistently warm weather yet.

I did actually pass by a rest stop without knowing it, at mile ~85, and was eating a fair amount at each. I thought ~150 calories of raisins at mile 87 would make up for it but I guess not. I'm just now realizing too that the sugars are probably split between glucose and fructose and fructose has to be converted to fat before it can even be used as energy.

Relative to the $10,000+ meme machines that are often hung on the walls of the shop, our measly $2k bikes are cheap. The people working there are pretty *really* chill, and often ask us about or rides or how our other bikes are doing (one of the rapha guys also works at a brompton shop). On multiple occasions the manager has given us free drinks and, shown us cool shit normal customers don't get to see. Overall the Rapha shop is not as pretentious as people make it out to be, 10/10 would recommend after a long ride.

A strong headwind gusting to 50 km/h for the 15 km return leg of my 70 km ride today. I was looping around a neighborhood on the other side of the city filling in roads I haven't visited yet this year.

I'm going to skip riding all the roads in the shitty part of town time round as its got much sketchier in the 5 years since I covered every road in the city. These days people are getting shot there a few times a week, though that's mostly at night, and not random. I passed through it on the way home and saw several groups of gang members and a couple guys with a stolen bike, assuming the 2 they were riding weren't also stolen. Last time I did a full ride of that area, I noticed that any time I saw people walking, they were walking in the alleys not on the streets. It was like that today too.

I'm that guy. I carry a double stack 9mm everywhere. Just don't want to have to use it unless my life is threatened. I outran him easily and he was small. Another factor to consider is how feud-y people are in the country. If I sprayed my neighbors dog, he would basically be my enemy forever and try to fuck me over in subtle ways.

The last few days I've just been hitting the trail around my place for an hour a day, goin up and down the local hill like a spastic. Trying to get some stamina and lose some weight. Walking seems like a waste of time for calorie burning.

No such thing with carbon, the fibers themselves may as well be string without the resin holding everything together and for a crack to develop without impact means the entire layup was stressed to the point of breaking the resin.

It can be fixed but it will cost more than he paid for the bike and it's very likely that the frame also has cracks that he can't see.

Normally I'm laid back bro on my road bike cruisin' the suburbs but I swore at and spat on a cager in front of children and their dad (who were on bikes). Asshole honked at me for taking the center of the lane in a 25mph suburban planned neighborhood with those 1.5 width streets. I caught up with him at the stop sign and spit on the car and told him "Fuck you asshole, fake Hyundai faggot" (he was in a Genesis).

While the cager deserved that and more I feel bad about doing that in front of children. I would have just let it go but I let my anger get the best of me. Also it didn't help I yelled it at the top of the hill and the ....HYUNDAI FAGGOT part echoed back at me from houses a half mile away.

On a lighter note I was riding at dusk last night and there was a little kid on a BMX that was riding like he stole it so I pulled alongside him and rang my bell. He looked over and said with genuine awe, "WOW you got a light on your bike! Cool!" Made me smile.

All the migratory birds are back in the area. I've seen about a half dozen herons this week it's pretty cool.

Raleigh Detour 1 is 269 on the corporate portal for raleigh (just sign up). It's a neat bike and unlike a lot of comfort hybrids- no suspension, 700c tires, huge wide gears up front with a large ring and wide gears in the back. EZ fire shimano 3x7 setup which people will poopoo but it is practical and at 269 you can't complain about the lack of a freehub.

The Cadent 1 is a flat bar commuter/hybrid similar to the Detour but with more aggressive flat mtb style bars. It's 269

One oddball you might consider is the Preston- it's 269 as well- but only if your campus is DEAD FLAT. It's a steel frame ss/fixie with turquoise paint, a spring saddle and upside down copper mustache bars. It's stylish a.f. but don't buy this if campus has hills. 269

I can't really pinpoint the initial cause of the problem. I know I was still on the fat bike at the time so its unlikely it was caused by riding. 2 likely possible causes would be snow shoveling or maybe hefting the fat bike into the repair stand. When loading a bike into my repair stand I lift them one handed by the top tube with my right arm while using left hand to tighten the clamp. If don't manage to get the balance right when lifting the bike there can be some awkward mid-air repositioning of my right hand.

Riding does seem to be aggravating the injury. Maybe I need some sort of brace.

Went down to Harrisonville, Mo and back along the historic Jefferson Highway which was built in the 1920s to connect New Orleans with Canada. Did the return leg in a bit over an hour while down there took 2 hours due to sustained winds of 25 mph. I rode around the courthouse square on their old brick cobbles since Roubaix was this weekend, ha.

Rained about 4 inches yesterday, so I should have stayed off the gravel roads. A semi hauling some farm equipment left some wavy tread patterns in the road which pulled my bike all over the place. The next vehicle to pass smoothed them out.

Did my first 200 km ride of the year. Annoyingly strong NW wind all day made the middle 70 km brutal, averaging only 17 km/h for that part. Nice tailwind for the last 27 km.

Time for a new saddle. Brooks saddles can do funky things as they age. They stretch out during a ride as they are moistened with taint sweat messing up your fit and making it nearly impossible to find a comfortable position.

Berthoud saddles will last longer as they're made from much thicker and higher quality leather than Brooks, but eventually the same shit will happen. It's why I typically ride with a cover on mine if I'm putting in effort.

Back in 2014 when I rode (nearly) every road in my city there were are few gated condo crescents / cul de sacs that I couldn't get into. The gate on one of the remaining 2 was open today so I ducked in there quickly to add it to my collection. Just 1 remaining.

I finally got around to making a map of roads I haven't covered yet. Mostly a smattering of small parking lots I won't bother with. Only 2 real roads left, motorways that aren't exactly bike friendly so I'll have to do them early on a weekend.

THis is me again. I've lost five pounds since I last posted. Just riding an hour an day and using a push mower for the grass. Looking forward to riding more when I get a decent bike that fits properly.

There a numerous spots where I approached a main road but didn't actually cross it as I used it as a dividing line between sections I was looping around in. There is a nagging annoyance that I didn't cross, but thus far I've avoided the compulsion to go zig zag to cover all those spots.

The gps traces were also useful for finding gaps in the local openstreetmap coverage. So I added hundreds of roads to the map during that time.

The frame is an On-One Inbred, and it's welded. I'm guessing they just put those there to make it stronger (or maybe heavier, we can't have cheap cromo competing with boutique steel, can we?).

After I did the city I started expanding out into the rural grid. I gave up on that after hitting a radius of every road in a 50 km, as the gravel rides were getting too long.

Then I started doing the Veloviewer Explorer thing that focuses on hitting every 1 mile map grid rather than continuous road coverage. Which is why the roads along the bottom have regular blips where I made a short detour to a grid tile border. I'm starting to max out on that now too, where a meaningful ride to expand my border needs to be close to 200 km of at least 50% gravel.

I went for an evening ride to the last part of the unopened freeway that I missed before xmas. They had been working on it again for the past month, but it wasn't quite as far along as would have been ideal for my little excursion. The dead end I encountered last year was now a 2 foot tall height difference between the approach and concrete bridge deck on both ends. They have been installing metal expansion joint pieces, but they were just laid down and not attached so it made a huge noise when I rode over it. Then there was a big stretch of deep sand leading up to the next bridge. I'll wait until they finish adding the road base before going over it again.
