Bombardier tried to reboot the concept with the JetTrain in the early 2000s. The original incarnation of the Florida HSR plan used it (the one that Jeb Bush killed, not the one Scott killed), and it was basically tailor-made for the American market, being the sister model of the Acela trainset.
Theoretically, it avoided the disadvantages of conventional turbine trains by using the HEP generator for motive power at low-speeds. In practice... who knows? All the American HSR initiatives planned in that era died, and no-one's proposed using a turbine train since. It's all-electric or diesel-electric nowdays.
According to rumors, the only Bombardier Jet Train model still exists, rotting away in a warehouse near its Pueblo test tracks.
