I am a dumb newbie fatty who just bought his first bike since childhood 2 weeks ago.
How the FUCK do I shift the front gear?
Like I press the lever\click the button, and half the time it just doesn't shift. It's stuck on the previous gear and makes a rattling noise.
So if I'm shifting to the middle gear, I'm forced to "overshift" to the next gear, which finally causes it to properly move the chain, then shift back to the middle gear to stop the noise.
If I'm shifting to the high gear, I have to press the lever again and keep it pressed until the chain finally moves up.
If I'm shifting to the bottom gear... well, I'm pretty much fucked. So I just go back to the middle gear and hope it'll work better next time.
Is there something I'm not getting? Am I supposed to be pedaling really fast/slow for it to work? Because I noticed pedaling slowly makes the chain snap to its appropriate gear if it's stuck, but pedaling slowly when actually pressing the level/clicking the button seems to only make things worse.
