>>1310754>>1310704More than anything, I just wanted something more rugged, fatter tires. The only reason I didn't get a mountain bike is because I wanted something faster than that. I go down some rough city roads, the occasional park, occasional shallow steps, tree roots but mostly it's all rails to trails smooth paved riding. I had the skinny little road bike and it didn't hold up.
I also had gone retro because I'm not comfortable in lycra kit and while I don't dress in parachutes, I wear a relatively tight polo with shorts that don't have floppy extra large leg cuffs. That casual outfit IMO, looks the most ridiculous on a modern racing bike.
So, whatever, I think the gravel bike will be perfect for me once I get the slicks on it. They're as fast as a road bike once you put slicks on them anyway, they slicks are just larger slicks and the wheels have more spokes.
