For me T2 is a legend, the most PCC-like tram car while not being a total cargo cult copycat.
Its predecessor T1 was an amazing tram as well, definitely a milestone in a tram production in Czechoslovakia, however it kept a lots of characteristics of earlier pre-war trams and did not completely met up with the standards of transportation expected after the war. T1 had more slim-looking, sleeker, design which was a typical product of the late-30's and 40's aerodynamic modernism. Amazing time for design which got unfortunately totally destroyed by the war, very little things remained from that time.
T2 is a product of 50's design period. The decade fascinated by the struggle of America and USSR. What th west made, the east had to make even bigger and "better". Design partly influenced by Soviet realism (which itself influenced by nationalistic revival classic styles like in nazi Germany), but mostly by american "chrome and massivenes", the 50s rock and roll baby.
T1 got spread only around Czechoslovak cities and only in those with standard gauge (the lack of the modern vehicles was one of the reasons for closure of few narrow-gauge systems like in Ústí Nad Labem).
T2 was the first ČKD-Tatra that made it into USSR, it was the model that meant Tatras were chosen as one of the main tram producers of eastern bloc and finally made the huge success of the later T3.
