People keep saying that the "US is too big for HSR", but here's the thing, why not build HSR in the US like the Germans or the Chinese have?

The idea isn't to connect everything through a hub and spoke, like in France or Japan, but instead offer point to point lines, connecting a string of cities to each other, creating a network.

Would someome want to take the train all the way from Quebec City to Dallas? Probably not, but they're more likely to want to go to Boston, New York or Toronto.

Domestic flights will probably still have their place in North America, but then, why kill off the idea of travelling by HSR be killed if you want to make your journey in 2-6 hours? There are city clusters, you don't have to make crazy train changes.
