The reason none of it gets fixed or even slightly better is that in the US, solutions to practical problems constantly get confused with politics. Like if you want to improve public transportation and stop giving guns to retards you get a response like "Oh, so you want to use money from tax payers for a public cause huh? You COMMUNIST trying to make us weak and too poor to own a car!!". And when you propose to keep literal thieves from coming into the country you'll get something like "Oh, so you wanna use violence against a specific group of people you NAZI.." etcetera. It sucks.
