I ride rims exclusively. I get sore muscles in my palms after very long rides but I deal with it.
I'd love a bike with good disc brakes and they would probably be better for my use case, but I can't justify paying that kind of money for another bike while I already own 4.

full stops are neutral to me, and i feel warm inside pulling into a hedge to let an articulated thing or tractor drive past along with a queue of like 5 cars behind it, on the rare occasion something like that happens.

I have no preference for modulation or ease... i just pull the lever as much as i need to, and get used to it per-bike. i guess since i dont brake much it doesnt matter.

i carry about 100kg total because I have a cargo crate on the back, in which I put a bunch of water and shit, and I'm 70kg by myself.

I avoid collisions easy, though cars have hit my side before, because they have not given me enough room.

my brakes have not required maintenance for the 3 years I've had my bike. I didn't even think about it until now, and I'm kind of afraid now since my front shifter just seized up and I guess I'm reaching the point where my bike is going to start trying to kill me.

Yeah I realized you probably rode rims while I was running because what was said about the barrel adjusters.
Discs are a luxury, but if you have a strong grip I'm sure rims are fine.
Personally I'm working on my communication with motorists so my stops are fewer and easier to anticipate.

Fairly conservative. I like a good 1.5 seconds of thinking time, but that goes down if i'm confident about traction and balance.

Yep. 24.99999 km/h isn't fast, and in case something goes wrong you can jump off the scooter.

I read that whole question wrong, lets try again.
So far I have never had any brakes fail on me on any bike.
Disc brakes are crazy reliable.
I distribute my load to the front and frame area since my own weight is at the back.

I can also add, whenever I really brake hard I stand up and lean behind my bike to help it stop faster.

I'm not going to answer your autist questions but here are my two cents about braking:

My two daily cycles have rim brakes:
one with alu rims + v-brakes (brakes quite good) the other one has steel rims + brakes like your pic (brakes like shit, especially when wet - I use the rear kickback brake then)

I got a vintage roadbike with rippled steel chrome rims. Worst brakes ever, it barely brakes at all although perfectly adjusted + new brake blocks.
If wet, pulling the brake doesn't do anything at all.
The bakes make a hell lot of noise, I just need to touch the brakes instead of using the bell

My cross-bike has hydraulic disc brakes and this is the brake type that I'll have on every new bike I'm going to buy. Anything else is shit and I've had em all.

5. Crashing is sort of inevitable at some point, brakes or not. My last crash was from getting doored by an illegal commercial vehicle (no hack license) that just stopped out of nowhere and a fat middle aged lady swung the door open. Before that I've crashed from getting right hooked by some retard who was afraid of getting honked at so he did this crazy "I'm going to kill you" turn into me after signaling like he had decided not to turn after all. Before that some dumb teenager jumped out on front of me while roughhousing with his friends. On average it's about one crash for every 25,000 miles.

6. New brake pads when needed. Bleed when needed

7. They either rub or they don't brake enough or they make noise. I do not understand the last question. It's disc brakes, so it works the same as any disc brake bike

when front pads wore down completely (as had happened like a week ago) I switched to rear braking and rode a bit softer on the way home. Something fucked up in replacing the pads and I took the bike to the LBS to be bled

Well, if you don't have Parkinson, I think you can modulate any brake relatively well.

I had to use it not even once. It is way faster, than any sort of brake, since scooters have tiny wheels, tiny contact area, they just keep skidding.
I think scooters need something like pic related. At least ones with solid rubber wheels.
On bicycle it is different story though. Tires are air filled, and when you break, surface area on front wheel increases, which allows to brake fast without skidding.

That's an electrodynamic brake.

It doesn't touch the ground but absolutely requires being next to the rail. It slows down vehicles using eddy currents. Similar technology is used in modern roller coasters.

Nobody puts Eddy brakes on trams/LRT, they're made for high speeds.

Question for hydro users: have you ever gone OTB or done an endo after braking hard on an emergency situation? A lot of people I talk to avoid them for that reason, specially on road bikes. I've never tried them myself but something tells me these people are just dumb.

Not really, my city have cycling lanes and if i'm riding outside of the city people keep their distance.

Ive been bikepacking through cities before while just resting on my aero bars and never needed to use the brakes ever to slow down.

A lot of people talk about how cars try to cut them off, Ive never been in those situations before. 10 years riding, no emergency braking.

I have rim brakes on my roady, and they require very little. Occassionaly I change the pad and readjust the cable. On my hydros I do a bleed about every 2 years, seriously.

Typicall bicycle setup on both, tested for years, no worry that they'll ever fail. Plus I have 2, front and back.

90% of the roads in my city have no cars on them because the city rerouted their main roads to the outside of it.

Still though, cycling lanes are shared on the sidewalk so i'm never on the road in the first place.

Yes and no: if I just missed a green on a light that's situated uphill I feel some annoyance. Otherwise I coast through vacant stop signs or when I'm clearly the first to arrive. Meditating during a stop is good.

I run into something soft! If someone cut the cables down to one wire and I was speeding downhill into cross traffic,I would have hopefully applied them with enough distance to skid out or jump off into a barrel roll until I came to a stop. I usually like to test the brakes before getting up to very high incredibly fast speeds as a precaution, especially after leaving my bike unattended. I like to tap my brakes more than coming to an unpredictable stop, so I give myself room to slow

Skid is full pull with maybe a 1/2" of clearance between lever and handlebar, anything else is degree of slowdown. Minimal-pull-to-stop annoys me when riding other peoples bikes.

My bike is a huge behemoth, not a spindly flimsy thing, I can carry 150lbs on the rear rack if need be or pull one of several ghetto trailers I have for different loads.

hydraulic brakes sound just like another expensive meme for people with too much money. i bet that it locks your wheel if you dont refill it with some expensive magic brake liquid before every ride. even if it doesnt it means that theres more things that have to be maintained and less time for using the bike.

Could be an alignment issue. Rim brake pads need to have a bit of toe-in.

Hydros are great and maintenance on them is changing the fluid every once in awhile, much like how with cabled brakes you need to change the cables once in awhile. The parts aren't even that expensive. Manufacturers of complete bikes just upcharge for it like crazy.

Squeaking is almost always an issue caused by dirty brake pads/rims. Clean them with alcohol.

but can i decrease the sensitivity on them? i really dont want that the wheels lock just by touching it with a finger. just the regular disc brakes are already way too sensitive to me.. theres barely a mm between some modulation and full wheel lockup so it will almost always lock up if i have to slow down quickly and dont have time to plan it.
