Indeed, it really does appear to be the best solution.
It is handy for navigation when touring.
I have an unsupported phone model and had to find a hard case to glue the adapter onto, which I did with epoxy. The phone is in turn held into the case with double sided tape. It's held up great so far but I don't trust the glue so I've also drilled two holes through the whole thing and put a thin steel wire through and tied it up. If the glue breaks atleast it won't fall to the ground. It's a bummyass looking setup if you look closely but it works.
Since you work for QuadLock, here's some feedback:
Support more phone models.
There are a few degrees of play in the interlocking quad mechanism, maybe steel or aluminium could be machined to be more precise so the phone can't wiggle?
The blue color doesn't match shit. Fuck your branding - make it black.
The whole thing could probably be a few millimeters slimmer, there's no need for the ring you wank on to loosen the phone to be that high. It's just unsightly.
Devise some way to firmly attach the piece that goes on the bike (with O-rings and zipties) that lets you remove and reattach it at will. Only using the O-rings doesn't fasten it safely enough and I'm afraid they'll deteriorate in the sun and snap. Having to put on new zipties every time is not an optimal solution. Some kind of thicker, wider rubber bands would be my recommendation.
Nitpicks:
It doesn't sit very nicely on non-round stems.
It doesn't fit on very short stems.
