i've been hit by a car 3 times on a bicycle and i don't think i could have done anything about it either time.
But the incident that changed my attitude was a woman who cut across the lane from a park, when i was bombing down a hill. I jammed on my brake, she passed 1m in front of me, rear wheel lifted off the ground. I rode after he, got in a massive shouting match, tried to call the police who did nothing, she wouldn't even admit she did anything wrong.
And i rode away so goddamn angry. And just realised, hold on, what did i expect? Do i have to be angry? It felt like absolute shit.
I can ride carefully and try to not get hit.
If i am hit, i can calmly seek compensation.
I can enjoy cycling.
And i don't need to get angry about bad drivers.
Because i hate it, it makes me feel miserable.
But i love cycling. It's such a great stress relief thing to do. The solution to it all is just built right in.
