The thing is, airlines are actually interested in electric aircraft, because it would eliminate the fuel costs. Yes, there are the electric costs, but the costs of fueling a jet or turboprop for a short flight of about an hour or less, is nearly 3 times that of the equivalent electric costs for the same kind of journey.
As things like more cheap renewables like wind and solar furnace get installed, and nuclear power is advanced, then the costs would be set to go even lower for electric costs by kWh.
The main limiting factor right now is the electric infrastructure to deliver 300-500 kW of charging power. There are battery electric ferries in the world which can charge up using bespoke chargers like that, but they use super-capacitors to help deliver that amount of power.
