I want to ride the Crimean trolleybus so bad. 80+ km of glorious soviet trolleybus engineering, plus local lines HNNNNNNG

Also trolleybus general I guess.

I have the privelege of having riden on the Crimean Trolleybus in the town of Yalta.
This was back in.... 2011, so well before the annexation.

The Trolleybus is kinda under thread from the dreaded Marshrutka, and many drivers will just go along the Trolleybus lines and some will even offer cheaper fares than the Trolleybus.

I remember seeing a Trolleybus in Yalta stop for a dog which was running across the street, and then the dog, while in the middle of the road, decided to take a shit. The trolleybus driver just shrugged and rolled his eyes. Truly, the most former Soviet thing I've ever seen.

It's a shame that I'll probably never see Crimea again, not unless shit changes again.

Detroit has trolleybuses until the early 60s, not long after they got rid of the last streetcars in 1956. Someone in my model railroad club has a trolleybus pole in their front yard as a flagpole.

I wasn't so sure on the year. It was either 2011 or 2012..... I'm more sure about 2011 though.... Maybe I'm wrong. It was around that period of time though, when Crimea was a part of Ukraine, and as a Westerner, travelling to Ukraine was really easy.

travelling to russia has never been an issue for me tho, except having to get a visa, which any travel agency specialized on russia gets you for a few bucks.

My mother is originally from the Soviet Union, so that's where the issue starts from. I'm officially not a Russian citizen, but if the Russian embassy or whatever starts insisting I am, then.... I'm basically fucked.

Plus, there's some other reasons I don't want to go to Russia. Plus, I like Ukraine, and the only legit way to enter Crimea without being banned from Ukraine is to cross the land border.

Previously, before the annexation, there used to be a seasonal, once a week flight between London Gatwick and Simferopol Airport. I have flown into that shithole of an airport before, but into the domestic terminal, which is a real shitshow.
The 20 minute taxi from runway to apron wasn't nice either, as it was super bumpy and just... ew.
