That Waterline 1480 (14.8 m or ~49 ft) is still pretty expensive though. The Waterline 1160 (11.6 m or ~38 ft) is around half the price, pic related. The shorter you go the worse your hull length-to-beam ratio is going to be though, which means less performance in a multihull.

There’s been a proliferation on 50ft and bigger Jeanneaus, Dolphins and Catanas at my local club. Can’t say I enjoy their presence with their huge apartment-like cabins. I went sailing on a big cat once but didn’t like the lack of motion feedback, it seemed like the boat wasn’t moving at all. I’d still like to try tris though

Yeah I'll be the first to admit that the vast majority of cruising catamarans aren't very kind on the eyes. If I were buying a boat to go sailing far I'd still want one though for the sheer amount of space (and potentially performance if you buy a design oriented towards it) they can provide.

The Multi 23 looks like an amazing piece of kit but holy shit, singlehanding one across the Atlantic seems like a heck of an undertaking, what with the no protection from the elements and stuff. Maybe he had a setup like pic related? Looks comfy as hell, not gonna lie.

And yeah, the motion on cats is very different from monohulls. I've been on cats with long-term mono sailors who never got seasick normally but the motion of the cat got some of them a bit queasy.

I've been considering buying something pic related for a while, i really liked this one in particular because of the very practical (but ugly) weather protection solution on the bridge deck. And with a head, decent galley, two double berths, autopilot, dingy and new engines it's a bargain at US$22k before bartering. Plenty of space for coastal cruising as one person imo.

Yeah I dunno what the deal with that (or the name) is. Normally I'd be against changing a boat name because tradition etc but in this case I'd do it. I'd like a boat called "Nomad", partly because it'd reflect how I'd use the boat but also because it's really easy to spell out phonetically.

It seems like people who are used to monohulls fucking hate the motion on cats, but newbie sailors prefer it because it's more similar to the bumpy and jiggly motion of a car on a dirt track, whereas monohulls move more smoothly but lean and sway substantially.

Yeah that's a good analogy. I think that's part of the reason why cats have become such a popular charter option as well; for people who only jump on for a week or two the motion is much more forgiving.

The boat you posted in >>1345544 reminds me so much of "Beowulf", designed by Steve and Linda Dashew. They must have been well into their retirement when they designed and had Beowulf built and sailed her over 40,000 nautical miles with just the two of them on board. Pretty impressive for a 78 foot boat. Luckily it's extremely well documented due to the nature of Steve and Linda's work.
