Clearly no one in this thread has any experience unicycling. I'm only a month and a half in, and the only time I use my arms for balance anymore is when turning. Arms are at your side most of the time, balance becomes second nature. And it isn't hard to not sit on your balls. No harder than on a bike.

Strongly recommend the sport, OP. The learning process only takes a few weeks, but it is miserable, nothing but falling off until you don't. Very much worth it though. You will be the coolest person on the road.

I’ve owned and rode 2 of them. About The longest I could ride it was about 2 miles. Your lower back hurts pretty bad by then trying to keep yourself erect on that scab maker

You're going to want to get a learner unicycle first. 20" or 24" are standard, 24" being more optimal for travelling short distances. 20" are mostly for riding around a room or smaller areas. Learn on that until you can ride for a few minutes then buy a 27" - 36" to use for travel. You could do it on a smaller wheel but it's a lot more effort

Edd Pratt traveled around the word on unicycle.
From my experience you want to start with smaller wheel size (20 to 24 inch).
It will be easier for you, then you can move to something bigger, ideally 36" or schlumpf geared unicycle for long distances.

Check out /out/ We have a lot of this type. I did it for a while. I honestly loved it, but you have to be the kind of person willing to wash your nuts in cold-ass creeks every day and eat cheap dehydrated crap like ramen and rice+lentils or money becomes an issue very quickly. The thing I wasn't prepared for was the thighstretch from walking 20-30 miles/day.

You won't need melatonin. You'll be fucking exhausted by the time you realize you're getting tired and then knock out another several miles trying to find relatively level somewhat soft ground that's far enough out of sight of the highway but not within sight of property owners.

It's brutal, but definitely gives you a sense of accomplishment that working a crappy 9-5 and putting 10% in savings can't compare to.
