My commuter is a slow piece of shit so I would rather utilize a route that doesn't have any car traffic. It just so happens that the most convenient time for me to get groceries during the week is after work, which is when every other person is out jogging or walking their dog.
I train exclusively on the road, and I choose low volume roads or off-peak times to ride. It's more productive and there are less traffic interruptions that way. I hope this explains things in a way you can more clearly understand.
