The problem with these is the upright seating position, limiting speeds to 20 km/h.

Might as well raise the crank up above the front wheel, get your legs up out of the air, and keep the upright seating position. At least this way you can get some decent speed.

(Under Seat Steering)
SWB FWD (Front Wheel Drive)

CLWB - Compact Long Wheel Base
CLWB 26'' 20''
CLWB 20'' 16''

LWB (Long Wheel Base)
LWB 28'' 20''
LWB 26'' 20''
LWB ASS or LWB USS

FWD MBB Recumbents (Front Wheel Drive Moving Bottom Bracket)
FWD MBB ASS
FWD MBB USS

Aside from that recumbents can have hardshell or mesh seats. Personally I prefer Mesh CLWB ASS configuration.

Then there's also differences in frame design. Do you want triangles or do you want a simple one-stick design. And do you want curves in the stick design or do you want it straight.

All off the above have different riding and handling characteristics.
