This right here is a Zero SR motorcycle with a standard range of 101 km. With the Vetter fairing pic related, the range has been increased to 320 km on a single charge.

I don’t know this particular project, but afterthought fairings tend to be pretty lame. It’s a major part of the overall design, it deserves to be built into it from the start. Otherwise they always rattle loose and are a huge pain with maintenance.

If I'm not mistaken, drag in a fluid increases with the square of velocity, whereas the energy expense increases linearly with mass.
On a motorcycle, the high speeds at which it usually operates produce a substantial drag force, and the additional weight of a shield is largely offset by the drag reduction.
On the other hand, bikes go to speeds that are typically 1/4th or 1/5th of motorcycles, meaning that they are subject to drag forced about 20x lower.
They are already very light, and it might very well be that the additional weight of a shield would not be offset by the (minimal) reduction in drag

Simply it's the most based long range hpv. But in start and stop traffic the aerodynamic gains are kinda moot. Also if you got a tadpole configuration you can ascend any climb a regular bike can, so don't @me.

There is a reason the UCI banned velos and it's not because of looks. Hint: same reason FIM heavily regulates fairings in motorsports...

Maybe for a 320km journey on the highway, but not for communiting through the city. The improved aerodynamics only really matter at higher speeds.

Anything past 20 mph and aerodynamics become the dominating factor. With stop and go traffic this thing could probably reach 400 km/h as the already standard Zero SR has a much higher range at lower speeds in the city. The added weight of the fairing is tiny compared to the overall weight of the machine.

They knew aerodynamics, as it applied to planes. Applying it to cars at a higher level was relatively unknown beyond basic streamlining until the proliferation of wings and ground effects in the 70s.
