Cheap hydrogen blimps for scouting operations. Much cheaper than a helicoper. Relatively compact. Car slung below like oldschool days to prevent engine contact with the bag. Just one engine is needed. Keep the design as simple as possible. Shouldn't have to cost more than a $100k to build.

Fun fact: airships experienced their peak moment not in the rigids or passenger transport, but as small blimps scouting the oceans during war, first the british in ww1 and later the ususus blimps in ww2. only airship experrts know this.

Even the Hindenburg which was touted as being one of the most luxurious airships of its time had 3rd class ocean liner accommodations for passengers because weight reduction was an absolute necessity.

I love the idea but I don't think people would love being in the air for that long.

If you were able to somehow make it viable the places I could see it would be the Grand Canyon or the Southern California coastline.

A series of vulnerability tests were done by the UK Defence Evaluation and Research Agency DERA on a Skyship 600. Since the internal gas pressure was maintained at only 1–2% above the surrounding air pressure, the vehicle proved highly tolerant to physical damage or to attack by small-arms fire or missiles. Several hundred high-velocity bullets were fired through the hull, and even two hours later the vehicle would have been able to return to base. Ordnance passed through the envelope without causing critical helium loss. In all instances of light armament fire evaluated under both test and live conditions, the airship was able to complete its mission and return to base.

Or for that matter outfit a whole A380 with like 80 first class mini-suite things, a restaurant and lounge, etc. and it'd still probably cost the same or less to fly on than one of these airships would.

The problem is making the rigid envelope strong enough to not collapse from the outside air pressure while light enough to weigh less than the air it displaces. But I'm sure you already knew that.
I don't think anyone has ever managed that and I'm doubting if it's even physically possible.

In a tangent: I used to think that the term 'dirigible' had to do with the airships being built with rigid envelopes. But no, it turns out it means stearable. It's a ballon that you can steer.
