A bikepacking bike is for people who convinced themselves they are cyclists and think they only need 1 bike
No real cyclist can only have 1 bike
The only people who can have 1 bike aren't cyclist but wheeled pedestrians
wheeled pedestrians dont identify as cyclists and just use their bike for practical purposes only, outsource the maintenance to bike shops and dont see cycling as their hobby. Most often found riding shit bikes that can get them where they need to be, but if its further than 5 miles or its raining they go by car or train. (buses are cars, trains are cars on rails.)
Then there are those with a little more money who also fit this branch but buy a better bike.
