Now, you probably live in some suburban shithole. That means bushes on the corners, private driveways, and wide streets and fourway stops.
Motorists don't look for you on the street anyway, they certainly won't look for you when they're making a right turn and you're a good two feet to the right or more on the sidewalk. Not to mention, those areas think bikes are for children, and likely won't expect you to turn up anywhere with any amount of speed.
I'm not saying it can't be done, it just empirically isn't the safest. I use it in a pinch, especially late night, on a one way or something when I get fucked, but it's always slow AF.

You could ask the boy it happened to last summer in my old suburb, he was going straight along a road and someone wanted to turn right from the off road, which had a stopsign the dude pushed, but he was taken away strapped to a board and I never found out what happened to him.
