also, you want a tire with some kind of inner protection layer. I am fond of the continental grand-prix 4-season tires on my regular road bike, and continental cyclocross speed on my commute bike. Not a fan of the continental gatorskin tires - too heavy and stiff imho.
my guess is that all tubes come from China or Indonesia, just some of them have better QA than others. so the cheaper Kenda and store brand (QBP) brands could have good and bad batches.
keep away from tubes that say super light or racing or thin. also latex tubes are not what you want. super heavy tubes ride horribly. airless things are even more horrible.
