As far as elevated highways go, there are good and bad ways to implement them, but they are necessary the larger a city gets. Anyways, if it's not a highway, it'll be a railroad.

I should take pictures underneath the metropolitan expressway in Montreal, it's 10 times worse than that. All the overpasses and viaducts built in the 1960s-1970s in this city ware collapsing due to sub-standard concrete and complete lack of maintenance. Pic related in the late 70s
