The problem with a taildragger is that the pilot usually can't see what's directly in front of him because the nose is pointed at the sky.
The Stol DoubleEnder thus becomes one of the safest bush planes in the world because it gives the pilot engine out capability while increasing his foreward visibility. Also, because the props are so high up the risk of prop strikes against random branches you didn't see or shit on the tarmac is a whole lot less.
It's a cool design.
