I don't think that's really necessary unless you're breaking and rejoining your chain and not just terminating it and leaving it, or using the quicklink once. Unfucked with chains don't really break.

I guess some also have an 8mm allen key for crank bolts which is also quite big and gratuitous for most systems now.

Pic is a good option. You just want to check that your tool can cover all the different bolts on your bike, and a screw driver for derailleure adjustments.

I have a CB M10 which I'm very happy with, has all the keys I need. For longer tours I bring the M10, a bone and some small pliers, tire levers and a tube fix kit.
