If this is ever finished, it would be completely irrelevant in most people's lives.

Cycle touring infrastructure is not the same thing as commuting infrastructure. I'd much rather see an emphasis on things which millions of people could use every day.

If you can provide them a safe environment in which they can ride bikes for fun they'll be more inclined to support better infrastructure in their cities also. If you try to push cycling infrastructure to people who have never ridden a bike they'll object it.

Exact same arguments were made with the Appalachian trail, or any supertrail for that matter. What's easier, dummies, building one entirely new trail or connecting hundreds of preexisting trails?

I'm not sure if that's a fixed gear. I'm inclined to think it's an internally geared hub because the hub itself looks thick and I think there's a shifter on the handlebar.
